Golden State Gatherings Are Back!

Our team and our industry has a lot to celebrate … California finally released meeting reopening guidelines last week so we can start planning events in our home state!

When California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced plans to fully reopen California by June 15, it was music to our ears. As long as case numbers continue to downtrend and the vaccination supply remains robust, gatherings greater than 100 people will be allowed if attendees are wearing masks, and those attending larger gatherings of 5,000 or more will be required to provide a negative COVID test result or proof of vaccination. We can work with that!

Even better yet, as of April 15th, hotels in California were able to start reopening for meetings—the capacity numbers are dictated by each County Health Department and what tier the county is in based on California’s Blueprint for a Safe Economy. For example, in the Red Tier, indoor gatherings have a maximum of 100 with proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test, while outdoor gatherings can have up to 200 people including staff. The number jumps to 150 inside and 300 outside in the Orange Tier, and 200 inside and 400 outside in the Yellow Tier.

The California Hotel & Lodging Association published Clean + Safe Guidance for Meetings + Events, which is being used as the statewide industry standard and should help assure potential attendees, employees, and local residents that their health and safety is the number one priority.
