Meetings Mean Business Coalition is at it again... advocating for our industry.
/Powered by the U.S. Travel Association, the Meetings Mean Business Coalition is advocating for our industry on the federal level. The group is focused on lobbying for five key legislative priorities to create economic relief for the meetings, events and travel industry:
Extend and enhance the CARES Act relief package.
Ensure businesses are protected from COVID-19 related financial risks.
Incentivize a safe restart of the meetings and events economy offering Meetings and Events tax credit
Strengthen the federal role in COVID-19 testing, production, research and contact tracing.
Temporarily freeze per diem rates.
We are particularly encouraged by the incentive platform that’s on the table, which has the potential to truly help reboot the meetings and travel industry safely.
These include the creation of a payroll tax credit for employers and nonprofit organizations to travel / host meetings and events through 2022. This credit is capped at $10,000 per traveling employee per quarter. The Eligible sites for 2 of more people to meet would include any hotel, restaurant, stadium, or convention center in the U.S.
Also on the agenda is also a temporary travel tax credit tax for individuals. This tax credit is for qualified travel expenses incurred in the U.S. between the date of enactment and December 31, 2021, up to a maximum tax credit of $4,000 per household. Take a vacation and deduct the costs!
They are also lobbying Congress to restore the full deductibility of entertainment and food and beverage business expenses for at least three years.
Another key piece is a tax credit for businesses to help offset the cost of meeting the stringent health and safety guidelines and cleaning services related to COVID-19, which could be a game-changer as those expenses mount.
