For the moms and dads doubling as teachers ...
/Labor Day has come and gone, and Summer 2020 is officially in our rearview. While it was far from traditional, we savored every moment of quality time with our families and loved ones and will long treasure the memories of the regional journeys we were able to take together. Pandemic be damned, we did our best to make lemonade out of lemons!
Now, we’re getting settled into our back-to-school routines. And even though we’ve had several months practice at this Zoom school thing, the juggle remains very real.
All you working moms and dads out there who are doubling as a teacher and trying to keep a career afloat, we feel for you and are right there in the trenches with you!
While we are supporting our children’s traditional math, reading and science schooling as they work with their teachers online, we are also committed to raising anti-racists and making a point to integrate those lessons at home. We’ve found The Conscious Kid to be a fantastic resource as we educate ourselves on how to talk to our kids about race and racism. The Black and Brown owned non-profit organization’s website also features a great list of books (appropriate for ages 0-18) by Black authors that confront anti-Blackness as well as children’s books that support conversations on race, racism and resistance. If you too are passionate about social justice and creating a better, more equitable future for our children and future generations, follow them on Instagram and consider donating to The Conscious Kid.
